SPIN
Formed
in 2005, Spin is a 5 piece ensemble committed to performing innovative
new music composed by members of the group. Since it's inception in
early 2005, they have established a reputation for performing demanding
music with energetic virtuosity.
The
versatility of Spin allows it to take on music from a wide variety of
styles. Its influences ranges from jazz and improvisational music, from
Eastern European to American folk music, from the arch-modernist to the
pop-influenced. The group is comprised of members Andre Canniere on
trumpet, David Crowell on saxophone, Red Wierenga on keyboards, Mike
Chiavaro on electric bass and Brady Miller on drums.
Andre

Andre Canniere graduated from
the Eastman School of Music in 2003 where he earned his MM in Jazz
Performance. While at Eastman, Andre studied trumpet with Clay Jenkins,
James Thompson and Douglas Prosser and received various awards
including a teaching assistantship. He received his BM in
Trumpet Performance from Mansfield University of Pennsylvania in 2001
where he studied with Michael Galloway. Additional teachers

Now a resident
of New York City, Andre performs and records with a variety of
musicians in many different ensembles. He has performed with some of
New York’s most respected jazz musicians including the Maria
Schneider Jazz Orchestra, Ben Monder, Rich Perry and Jeff Ballard.
Andre has also performed as principal trumpet with several
freelance orchestras including the Westchester Chamber Orchestra, The
New York Repertory Orchestra and The Astoria
Symphony.
As a leader,
Andre has formed several groups that have performed throughout New York
City. Most recently he has formed the Andre Canniere Group, a
quintet featuring Josh Rutner on saxophone and clarinet, Ryan Ferreira
on guitar, Ike Sturm on bass and drummer Ted Poor.
Andre is a
composer who has written works for various instrumental settings,
including large and small jazz ensembles, full orchestra and chamber
groups. His music often crosses the boundaries of genre and
culture; infusing improvisational music with traditional jazz and
classical styles, as well as drawing inspiration from folk and pop
music.
